Dick Johnson made a rare track return at Lakeside today, putting Team Johnson’s freshly built XD Falcon through its paces.
The 74-year-old and son Steven shared driving duties at the ride day event, which doubled as a shakedown of the car the latter will drive in this year’s Touring Car Masters.
A host of fans and media took in the action, while special guests included Johnson’s 1981 Bathurst 1000 winning co-driver John French.
Built to replicate the XDs in which Johnson’s career as a national Ford hero was born, Steven will race the car for the first time at the Superloop Adelaide 500.
Lakeside, north of Brisbane, was Dick Johnson Racing long-time test track before dropping off the Supercars calendar in 1998.
