The Australian Grand Prix Corporation is delighted to announce luxury watch brand Rolex has re-signed as the Title Sponsor of the 2014 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, March 13 to 16.

A helicopter flight over the Albert Park Lake involving a Red Bull Racing car dramatically suspended from its undercarriage celebrated the exciting extension of Rolex’s global partnership with Formula One and world motorsport’s imminent arrival in Melbourne.

This media stunt followed an earlier helicopter flight from Williamstown along Port Phillip Bay, an activity which showcased some of Melbourne’s finest attractions including the city skyline, Luna Park, Brighton Beach and Australia’s home of Formula One – Albert Park.

Premier of Victoria Denis Napthine was also in attendance at the launch; he said the global exposure generated through Formula One was unrivalled by any other annual sporting event staged in this city.

“Melbourne and Victoria are known the world over as the home of major events and the Australian Grand Prix plays a key role in ensuring our sporting line-up remains first-class in a global sense,” Dr Napthine said.

A number of other key announcements were made at the media launch – Melbourne model Georgia Geminder was unveiled as the Official Ambassador of the 2014 event and Australian motorsport champion Craig Lowndes was named V8 Ambassador.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation Chairman Ronald Walker AC CBE, said the 2014 event would once again be shown around the world on free-to-air television, which will ensure millions across the globe watch the broadcast.

“The 2014 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix will be seen by those in Europe at breakfast and the Asian market during lunch. Images of our city skyline and Albert Park will be beamed around the world into 185 territories, reinforcing the importance of this event in promoting Melbourne to the world,” Mr Walker said.

Rolex SA Director of Communications and Image Arnaud Boetsch, also expressed his excitement.

“We are delighted to be the Title Sponsor of the 2014 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix which marks the start of 2014 season and further demonstrates Rolex’s commitment to Formula One and the best of global motorsport. Last year was a great way to start our Global Partnership with Formula One and we are looking forward to some exciting racing in Australia,” said Boetsch.

Melbourne traditionally hosts the season opener with the race bringing plenty of action when the teams line up against each other for the first time in the New Year.

Sunday General Admission tickets purchased before March 1, 2014, are available at the special early bird price of just $79 – click here for ticketing information.

The V8 Supercars will be on track each day of the event as a support category.
