Evolution of night racing

The first Sydney SuperNight event at Sydney Motorsport Park will be headlined by a Saturday night race and two Sunday sprints.

It was announced at the weekend that the Eastern Creek venue will stage four back-to-back weekends of racing, starting on October 29.

Sydney Motorsport Park features various layouts and dedicated lighting, which makes it the perfect venue for the 2021 season to roar back into life.

The opening weekend on October 29-31 at Sydney Motorsport Park will play host to a trio of sprint races, each 125km in length.

The single-compound tyre formula will also remain in place, with five sets of the Dunlop Soft compound available to each car from the start of Saturday qualifying.

The on-track action will commence on Friday with two 30-minute practice sessions, including one night session.

Saturday’s action will see the Repco Supercars Championship field racing under lights.

The Saturday qualifying session will be followed by an ARMOR ALL Top Ten Shootout.

Sunday will be headlined by two 125km sprint races, with a single qualifying session setting the grid for each race.

As seen in SuperSprint formats throughout the 2021 season, teams are required to complete one compulsory pit stop during each race, changing a minimum of two tyres.

Support categories for the event are yet to be confirmed, with further details surrounding the Sydney event to be announced in due course.

Shane van Gisbergen is the current Repco Supercars Championship points leader, 276 points ahead of Red Bull Ampol Racing teammate Jamie Whincup.

Fans will be welcome at all events.

Ticketing details are being prepared, but fans can expect multi-event packages, family packages, park and view, grandstand and general admission options to cater for all tastes and expectations.

Details of the ticketing information will be communicated by Supercars soon.

Supercars will be working closely with health authorities around COVID-safe measures and Public Health Order requirements to ensure the safety of all staff and patrons attending the event.

All teams and officials will follow appropriate health guidelines for each event.
