The Pepsi Max Falcons topped the times this afternoon at Sandown, this time with co-drivers Steve Owen (Mark Winterbottom's co-driver) and Cameron Waters (Chaz Mostert) behind the wheel.

But all eyes were on Marcos Ambrose, who was home in third position in the day's final practice session at the Wilson Security Sandown 500.

Winterbottom and Mostert are the top two men in the Championship points, so a strong Sandown showing will be critical in the title fight.

Meanwhile Ambrose is facing his first weekend driving officially since stepping back early in the season, and showed strong pace.

Owen recorded a 1min09.687, just 0.017sec ahead of Waters in the #6.

Frenchman Alex Premat came home fourth in the Volvo, while Andrew Jones slotted a Brad Jones Racing Commodore in the top five.

Others to note include Steven Richards and Paul Dumbrell in the Red Bull Commodores seventh and eighth, and HRT stand-in Russell Ingall in 11th.

There is one final practice session tomorrow morning, before an all in qualifying session.

That session determines the grid for a co-driver only sprint race, which then sets the grid for a primary driver sprint race, to determine Sunday's grid and ARMOR ALL Pole Position.

Today's time was critical for co-drivers to master Sandown, before taking centre stage and racing one another tomorrow.
