Broc Feeney “learnt a lot” from what proved to be his toughest round yet in 2022.

Feeney recorded finishes of eighth, 14th, sixth and 12th at Albert Park.

On paper, it was a welcome return considering Feeney started the weekend in the Turn 5 barriers.

The teenager ended the weekend ninth for the round, and was just 21 points from fifth overall.

Racing from 17th to eighth in the first race was a highlight, but dropping from fourth to 14th in Race 7 was a disappointment.

A top 10 was in the offing in Sunday’s finale, but a pit lane infringement time penalty dropped him from ninth over the line to 12th.

"Overall, it’s been a pretty tough weekend for me,” he said.

"There hasn’t been one person that got through the week cleanly without a bad result, but I’ve learnt a lot.

"There’s positives to take out of each and every round, and there are certainly a few from this round.”

Feeney’s best starting position of fourth for Saturday’s second race didn’t go to plan, with the #88 dropping three spots.

He was first forced to double stack during a Safety Car period, then pitted twice more.

Somehow, he managed to recover to 14th after Chaz Mostert was penalised for contact with James Courtney.

He couldn’t convert a start on Sunday, which left him open to attack before ending up 12th.

"It wasn’t a great start either which I’ve been struggling with all weekend,” he said of Sunday’s race.

"I came into the pits quite early and came back out on the Hard tyres to try and get some clear air.

"I struggled a bit initially when I was on the Hard tyres, and I had a bit of pressure from the cars behind me but I managed to hold them off.

"A few of the drivers in front of me had a few issues and towards the end I had really strong pace.

"I ended up being one of the quickest cars out there towards the end of the race.

"I looked after the tyres really well and came through strong in the end, but unfortunately I received a five-second penalty for a pit lane infringement.”

Feeney is sixth heading to the next round in Perth.
