A battle with Shane van Gisbergen made a maiden podium all the more sweeter for Broc Feeney.

The 19-year-old needed just four starts to secure his first Supercars podium.

The Queenslander followed teammate van Gisbergen in Race 4 to secure Red Bull Ampol Racing’s 11th Tasmania one-two.

Feeney won the start and led van Gisbergen, with the race red-flagged following a first-lap crash.

Van Gisbergen swiftly took back the lead after the restart, and went on to win the race.

Feeney, however, was undeterred and celebrated across the line as though he had won.

"I got a good start in the first race and was leading the race for the first couple of laps,” he said.

"I had a little bit of a margin in front of Shane (van Gisbergen), but then the race was red-flagged, and we had to reset and go again.

"I was battling with Shane for a bit of the race, and finished P2.

"Getting my first podium was a great feeling.

"It’s a cool feeling to share that podium which such a great bunch of people who have helped me over my Supercars journey.”

Feeney crossed the line eighth in the finale, and moved up to sixth in the championship.

His next stop will be another circuit he has yet to race at, Melbourne’s Albert Park.

Triple Eight last won a race at the Grand Prix venue in 2018.

"In the last race, my starting position wasn’t great which made it hard right from the start,” he said.

"I was racing in the pack and managed to finish P8… overall, it was a shame not to finish the last race on a high.

"I’ve just got to look at the positives from the weekend and improve at the Australian Grand Prix."

Red Bull Ampol Racing also leads the teams' championship.

Albert Park will host the next round of the 2022 season on April 7-10.
