“I’m only getting better.”

That’s the message from Broc Feeney with four rounds done in 2023, with the sophomore Red Bull Ampol Racing driver on a run of wins.

Feeney has won at the last three rounds in 2023 — at Albert Park, Perth and Tasmania — and has closed on the points lead.

After four rounds, Feeney is 191 points behind series leader Brodie Kostecki. After four rounds in 2022, the then rookie was 362 points off the pace.

Shane van Gisbergen leads the qualifying head-to-head over Feeney 7-5, and the race head-to-head 8-4.

However, both drivers have won three races, and Feeney is just 19 points behind his three-time champion teammate.

Both drivers are within striking distance of the points lead, but Feeney said there’s more to come with eight rounds to go.

Had van Gisbergen and Feeney not been disqualified from Race 1 in Newcastle, they would be four and 26 points from the points lead respectively.

Should Feeney pull off the title in 2023, he would be the youngest champion in Supercars history.

He's well and truly in the fight, with the top five in the championship the closest it has been since 2018.

“I still feel like every weekend, I’m only getting getter,” Feeney said.

“It was a bit over 12 months ago that I got my first podium here.

“I’m building and building, and driving a lot of cars — since Perth, raced in Thailand, been doing heaps of stuff.

“Every week, I’ve got something to work on, and I’m always sitting in a car.

“We’ve got to keep lifting our game — we have to keep hunting them down.

The key for Feeney in closing the gap to those ahead of starting the weekend on the front foot.

The 20-year-old has picked up the ‘Mr Sunday’ mantle, having won all four of his career races on Sundays of events.

Feeney believed a Saturday win in Tasmania was in the offing had he not collided with Chaz Mostert early on.

“For sure, we’re making gains across the weekend,” he said.

“We still had the pace to be on the podium [in the first race] but obviously got caught up in a bit of mess.

“I don’t just want to be good on Sundays, I want to be good across the whole weekend.

“I thought we put ourselves in a decent spot [on Saturday] to do that, but unfortunately racing happens.

“For sure we’re making gains overnight, it’s going to be something to work on in the future, so we’re quicker out the gate.

“I think we’re certainly making improvements.”

The 2023 season will resume at the betr Darwin Triple Crown on June 16-18.
