Full battle: Kostecki, van Gisbergen dispute Perth win

Contact from Shane van Gisbergen on Brodie Kostecki in Perth was reviewed by officials following an Erebus Motorsport request, with the team protesting the result.

Erebus' protest will be heard in a hearing, which will be held after Sunday morning qualifying.

Van Gisbergen and Kostecki fought for victory in a thrilling battle at the Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint on Saturday.

Series leader Kostecki was hit with a bad sportsmanship flag on the penultimate lap, just before van Gisbergen made a dive at Turn 6.

Van Gisbergen muscled into the lead and won Race 7, with Kostecki forced to defend from David Reynolds.

It resulted in no further action as it was not referred to stewards, with van Gisbergen cleared of any wrongdoing.

The Motorsport Australia stewards’ report states that Erebus requested an investigation into the Turn 6 clash.

The report states: "Following the race the DRD [deputy race director] in consultation with the DSA [driving standards advisor] received a request for investigation from Erebus Motorsport into an incident at Turn 6 on Lap 41 when contact occurred between the front left of Car 97, Shane van Gisbergen, and the right rear of Car 99, Brodie Kostecki, at the entry to Turn 6.

"A review of broadcast footage showed that Car 97 had sufficient overlap with Car 99 at the entry to Turn 6 to require Car 99 to give Car 97 racing room by Car 99 failed to do so as a result of which the contact occurred.

"There was no evidence to substantiate any breach of the Rules by the Driver of Car 97 and for that reason the matter was not referred to the Stewards."

After the race, both drivers said they enjoyed the battle, although van Gisbergen claimed Kostecki's moves were "on the edge".

A Motorsport Australia spokesperson later confirmed: "Motorsport Australia Stewards have received protest paperwork regarding the result of Race 7.

Heimgartner turns Waters at pit entry

Kostecki extended his championship lead to 76 points over Chaz Mostert (#25 Mobil 1 Optus Mustang), who raced to 11th from 15th.

Van Gisbergen is 78 points down in third, with Will Brown (#9 Coca-Cola Camaro) and Feeney moving to fourth and fifth.

Erebus continues to lead the teams’ championship by a reduced 79-point margin over Red Bull Ampol Racing.

Meanwhile, no action was taken on the clash at pit entry between Cam Waters and Andre Heimgartner, with the #6 Monster Mustang sent into a spin.

James Golding, meanwhile, was demoted one position from 14th to 15th after an overtake on Bryce Fullwood was deemed illegal.

Golding (#31 Nulon Camaro) passed Fullwood (#14 Middy's Camaro) around the outside of Turn 7, and was found to have exceeded track limits and gained an advantage.

Brad Jones Racing was also fined $1500 and docked 30 teams' championship points over a pit lane incident for Jack Smith.

Smith was dropped without his left-rear wheel secured, which came loose as the #4 SCT Logistics Camaro left its pit bay.

Cars will return to CARCO.com.au Raceway on Sunday for Qualifying for Race 8 and Race 9 from 9:15am local time/11:15am AEST.

Tickets for this weekend’s Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint are on sale on Supercars.com and Ticketek.com.
