Erebus Motorsport has enlisted internal expertise to engineer the Greg Murphy/Richie Stanaway Bathurst wildcard.

Long-time data engineer Wayne Mackie will skipper the #51 Boost Mobile wildcard at the Repco Bathurst 1000.

Mackie was in line to engineer the entry last year before COVID-19 complications put the project on hold.

He has prior experience in GT racing, Formula Ford, Formula 3 and A1GP.

He also race engineered Jordan Boys’ recent wildcard appearance at Winton.

Mackie, who has cultivated several young drivers’ careers, is aware of the upcoming challenge.

Murphy and Stanaway will race a #51 Commodore

Murphy’s last Supercars start was in 2014; Stanaway last raced in 2019.

"The main thing with Greg and Richie is that they’re coming back to the sport and they’re going to have a lot to learn," he said.

"They come into a car that is different from what they’ve driven before.

"I’ve never worked with either of them before so it’s similar to working with young drivers in the sense that you need to build that relationship and learn each other’s language.”

The wildcard will complete a test day at Winton Motor Raceway next week.

It was at Winton that Mackie was witness to a crucial step in Boys’ career.

Mackie and Boys first linked up in 2019, and the relationship got off to a winning start.

"The partnership between Erebus and Image started off pretty successfully and has continued to grow," Mackie said.

"My first weekend with the team was engineering Jordan Boys at the 2019 Sandown event and he ended up winning!

"It’s great to see Jordan progressing as he is with this year’s wildcard.

"Over his time he’s had some setbacks but he works hard and keeps coming back from them so it’s great to see him getting these chances and progressing."

Tickets for this year's Repco Bathurst 1000 are on sale now.
