Brodie Kostecki is adamant Erebus Motorsport is well-placed to make a title challenge in 2022.

Kostecki backed up his maiden ARMOR ALL Pole Position to finish second in Race 2 at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Add to his top five finish on Saturday, and Kostecki is just 30 points from the championship lead.

Erebus is also just 48 points from the summit of the teams' championship.

The #99 Boost Mobile Commodore was in the thick of it all race on Sunday, with Chaz Mostert emerging victorious.

However, the weekend proved Kostecki's growing confidence, with the 24-year-old beating teammate Will Brown in both races.

Kostecki ended 2021 with a stunning run to third in the Great Race, sparking his 2022 goal of winning races.

However, having started 2022 with a bang, that goal has elevated to title glory.

"Always," he replied when asked is he was disappointed to finish second.

"You don't try and come here to finish second, you always come to the track to try and win.

"To come home P2, and a fifth, was pretty cool considering both Will and myself were pretty cooked.

"I'd like to think [we're championship contenders]. We have the tools there for us now.

"We went from here to Bathurst and had really good car speed... it'll be pretty interesting to see how we go in Tassie."

Kostecki became just the third Erebus driver, after Brown and David Reynolds, to claim a Supercars pole.

Prior to Sunday, he had never qualified on a Supercars front row.

Having ticked that box, race victory is now Kostecki's primary aim.

That aim will move to Tasmania later this month, where he recorded finishes of 10th, 16th and 18th last April.

"It was pretty cool to get that money off my back," said Kostecki, who has arrived in 2022 with a new dieting and exercise regimen.

Mostert and Kostecki's battle for the lead

"The cars have been really good since we left here last year.

"It's great that it's progressed through Bathurst and also coming back here as well.

"Car was pretty unreal there in the dry, and when it went wet, Chaz was a bit better than us.

"All in all, a great way to start the season."
