Erebus has no fear heading to bogey tracks

Erebus Motorsport boss Barry Ryans says his team “shouldn’t be scared” heading to any circuit after being on the money at every turn so far this year.

Be it in testing at Winton or Sydney, or racing in Newcastle, Albert Park and Perth, a constant has been Coca-Cola Camaros at the front.

Brodie Kostecki extended his drivers’ championship lead in Perth, and Erebus its teams’ points lead.

Heading to Tasmania, the team is full of confidence having scored trophies in eight of nine races.

Critically, both cars are at the front, with Will Brown winning the first Sunday sprint before finishing second in the finale.

Erebus has never taken pole or won at Symmons Plains, but given the team’s form, Ryan suggested his team has what it takes to carry on at the front.

Such has been the team's form, that Garth Tander labelled Erebus as "serious championship contenders".

“We’ve been to five tracks, including Winton and the test day in Sydney, and the cars have been really good,” Ryan told the Schick Cool Down Lap podcast.

“The balance has been good at every track. We shouldn’t be scared to go to any other track now.

“In the past, we’ve always had bogey tracks, and haven’t been able to get on top of them.

“Hopefully we can get rid of those bogeys, and make sure these cars are fast everywhere.”

Key to Erebus’ form in Perth was Brown being a factor.

The #9 Coca-Cola Camaro was arguably the best car on the track on Sunday, with Brown leading home Kostecki twice.

Brown’s first win since Sydney 2021 came off the back of his first pole since 2021, which also came in Sydney.

While hard work and clever engineering was the key, Ryan revealed another unconventional ploy which could have boosted Brown.

“[brown] listened to Adele on the way to the track this morning,” Ryan joked.

“Last year on the way to the track in Sydney, [Brodie] listened to Adele.

“Brodie said to him this morning, ‘You’ve got to put Adele on’. That's what it is, thanks Adele!

“It’s a pretty bad secret. If anyone’s going to get fired up by Adele, I’d be surprised.”

Kostecki and Brown are first and fourth in the points heading to the May 19-21 round at Symmons Plains.
