Tim Edwards has declared points leader Shane van Gisbergen can’t get in the head of Cam Waters.

Waters scored a double-win weekend at the Pizza Hut Winton SuperSprint, twice defeating van Gisbergen.

The Tickford driver won Races 13 and 15, with van Gisbergen winning Race 14.

The two drivers were joined at the hip all weekend, with Races 13 and 15 settled by a combined margin of 0.4s.

Saturday's race ended in high drama following a bold final-corner dive by van Gisbergen, who was forced to yield with a broken steering arm.

Fuelled by an undercut and bold overtake, van Gisbergen turned the tables on Waters in Sunday's first race.

It culminated in another final-lap showdown after van Gisbergen chewed through a six-second margin in the closing laps of Race 15.

Van Gisbergen crossed the line just 0.4s behind Waters, who moved to third in the points.

Tickford boss Edwards is adamant Waters can't be intimidated, having witnessed his driver hold off van Gisbergen twice.

"[Van Gisbergen] can get in most driver’s heads, but not Cam’s," Edwards told the Herald Sun.

"And I think that’s why he respects Cam as well because he knows Cam is mentally tough.

"He [Waters] can live with the pressure and can also be thinking about other things that are going on, not just trying to drive the car as fast as you can.

"Because you do need to do a lot more than just have the raw speed. You actually do have to think about a lot of other things.

"We didn’t have the fastest car, the fastest car was Shane’s car but we still managed to win two of the races through strategy, through race craft by Cam."

It marked the second time in Waters’ career that he won two races on the same weekend.

Waters is now third in the championship heading to Darwin.

For Edwards, Waters’ dominant weekend marked redemption following his penalty in Perth earlier this month.

"The biggest thing is it’s a bit of redemption. In Perth we felt we should have won... and we didn’t," Edwards said.

"But we also had great car speed at the Grand Prix. But unfortunately Cam ran into someone else and someone else ran into him.

"So, we have had the car speed there, it’s just nice to convert.

"There is still a bit of work for us to do to try and give Cam a better weapon … we managed to get pole on a couple of occasions but we didn’t have the race pace of Gizzy."

Van Gisbergen will carry an extended 281-point lead to Darwin.
