Paul Dumbrell has led Steve Owen in the final co-driver only run at the Castrol Gold Coast 600.

Dumbrell recorded a 1min11.280 set his lap early on soft tyres and sat in the garage for half the 30-minute session as the crew worked on car #1.

"We've been finding a bit of a vibration in the car so to get it right for Jamie's session this afternoon we pulled up stumps for me," Dumbrell said.

"The car's good on hard and soft tyres, hopefully J-Dub agrees and he can put in some fast laps this afternoon."

The Red Bull #1 broke a steering arm with Jamie Whincup in the car during the first practice session, and the team promptly repaired it for Dumbrell's two runs.

Behind Owen was Marcos Ambrose, who put his 1min11.423sec time in after the chequered flag, shooting up the order. Ambrose may have to complete more time than expected in the XBOX Falcon during the races, as the team assesses teammate Scott Pye's condition as he carries a rib injury.

Russell Ingall was sixth fastest during his second run in the Pepsi Max FG X Falcon, while Alex Premat in the #33 Volvo was the fastest driver on hard tyres.
