Paul Dumbrell has complemented Jamie Whincup's pole this morning, taking the chequered flag in the first qualifying race at the Wilson Security Sandown 500.

A 6.87sec gap separated the reigning Sandown 500 champion to Jonathon Webb in second place, while Steve Owen took the #5 Pepsi Max FPR Falcon to third.

While stewards suspected Dumbrell may have jumped the race start, the team did not seem worried about a penalty being handed down post-race.

"It was good fun out there," Dumbrell said of the first qualifying race of the Wilson Security Sandown 500.

"It's been a good consistent car, and Jamie's work this morning made my job a lot easier.

"But payday is Sunday, so there's still a lot of work to do."

Luke Youlden (Fabian Coulthard) made an impressive charge through the pack, jumping seven spots from his grid position for the Lockwood Racing Commodore to cross the line in 11th place.
