The story of the Ford Mustang Supercar’s development will be told ahead of its race debut at the Superloop Adelaide 500, via a one-hour documentary.

To premiere on Fox Sports at 8:30pm AEDT on Tuesday, February 26, the film will offer an unprecedented insight into the birth of the first two-door Supercar.

Produced by Neil Crompton’s AirTime Media, the documentary tracks the project from its announcement last April through to the recent Phillip Island testing.

Filming took place at Ford Performance and Ford headquarters in Detroit, USA, as well as the key track tests in Australia, including December’s homologation running in Temora.

Those to feature include the Ford Motor Company’s Edsel Ford and chief Mustang engineer Carl Widmann, Ford Performance director Mark Rushbrook and Roger Penske.

The history of the Mustang in Australian racing, including rare archive footage, is also showcased alongside a tribute to the Falcon that the new Supercar replaces.

Six Mustangs will be on the grid when the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship commences this week, with practice getting underway on Thursday.
