DJR Team Penske is racing the clock to make the grid for this afternoon’s race at Queensland Raceway, carrying out extensive repairs on Scott Pye’s Ford Falcon FG X.
Pye suffered a brake failure in the closing minutes of practice and slammed into a tyre barrier off turn three with no warning.
Repairs will not be complete in time for qualifying, but the team is focused on fixing the #17 for this afternoon’s 120km sprint at 4.15pm local time.
The team will also complete an engine change during this time.
Pye suffered a vibration in the rear brakes during the practice session and had come in to change rotors before the accident. The team is unsure whether that contributed to the crash.
Pye’s teammate Fabian Coulthard was the quickest man on track yesterday, with Pye confident of a strong showing from DJR Team Penske this weekend at their test track.
