Highlights: Practice 2 2023 betr Darwin Triple Crown

Anton De Pasquale has paced Friday at the betr Darwin Triple Crown, with Shane van Gisbergen enduring a Practice 2 shocker.

De Pasquale put his #11 Shell V-Power Mustang atop the timesheets in the final practice session of the weekend.

The Dick Johnson Racing driver led a Ford trifecta, with Tickford Racing teammates James Courtney and Cam Waters second and third.

Series leader Brodie Kostecki (#99 Coca-Cola Camaro) was the lead Chevrolet, with Thomas Randle (#55 Castrol Mustang) fifth.

It was a different story for van Gisbergen, who had another shocker due to issues with his #97 Red Bull Ampol Camaro.

Van Gisbergen’s session was undone by throttle and steering issues, which came after his Practice 1 plans were also delayed due to a Safety Car limiter trial issue.

Chaz Mostert, who is third in the championship standings, was only 26th and last in his #25 Mobil 1 Optus Mustang.

"We've had a couple of good sessions, which is really good" said De Pasquale, who was seventh in Practice 1.

"Darwin is a good place, it's been good to us, it's as good as place as any to turn it around.

"Really good test day a few weeks ago, a good last race Tassie... some stuff learned, which we took forward.

"Obviously it's practice, but it's a lot better than we were a few weeks ago."

Local driver Bryce Fullwood set the early running with a 1:06.5092s aboard his #14 Middy’s Electrical Camaro, ahead of Kostecki.

A number of drivers found trouble during the early runs — notably, De Pasquale bowled a major wide onto the grass at Turn 7.

As drivers returned for their second runs, it was Waters (#6 Monster Energy Mustang) to go top with a 1:06.4713s, before De Pasquale went even quicker.

De Pasquale’s 1:06.2857s, set on his fifth lap, proved the benchmark of the 30-minute session, with Courtney (#5 Snowy River Caravans Mustang) jumping to second.

The top seven drivers, with Andre Heimgartner (#8 R&J Batteries Camaro) and David Reynolds (#26 Penrite Mustang) sixth and seventh — were covered by 0.2085s.

Fullwood ended up eighth ahead of Will Davison (#17 Shell V-Power Mustang), with Macauley Jones (#96 Pizza Hut Camaro) rounding out the top 10.

Supercars will return to the track for knockout ARMOR ALL Qualifying on Saturday at 11:30am local time/12:00pm AEST.

The first 35-lap sprint of the weekend, Race 13, will commence at 3:25pm local time/3:55pm AEST.
