"I was pretty dirty on myself yesterday," said Waters, who claimed Tickford Racing's first Darwin pole since 2015.

"Today I just had to do a clean lap, put it together and we're up there in both races.

"There were a few wet kerbs out there; I was fine on them, but it caught others off-guard."

Such was Davison’s pace that the Shell V-Power Racing Team veteran was 0.142s quicker than his Saturday record.

Davison will share the Race 18 front row with teammate Anton De Pasquale.

“Tricky to go out, thinking it would be grippy,” Davison said.

“Really great to get another one-two for the team on the grid.

The dual ARMOR ALL Qualifying sessions were held early on Sunday morning.

Waters led on a 1:05.620s after the opening runs ahead of Broc Feeney, De Pasquale and Shane van Gisbergen.

De Pasquale and Andre Heimgartner qualified fifth and sixth.

Zak Best was a casualty of the first session, with the Tickford wildcard damaging his front right suspension after a minor crash.

Cars returned five minutes later for Race 18 qualifying, and Tim Slade paced the early minutes with a 1:05.645s.

The balance of the field exited the lane with five minutes remaining for a quick-fire dash for pole.

Davison blew the field out of the water with his 1:04.811s, helping himself to pole No. 6 of the season.

Feeney impressed to third ahead of Waters, with van Gisbergen fifth and Chaz Mostert sixth.

Race 17 will commence at 11:55am local time, followed by Race 18 at 3:25pm.
