Davison tops incident-packed Practice 2

Will Davison has topped an enthralling final practice at the ITM Auckland SuperSprint.

Davison led a quartet which was covered by 0.074s after 30 minutes.

The session was bookended by incidents for both Kostecki cousins.

Jake Kostecki found the Turn 3/4 barriers after 10 minutes had elapsed.

In the closing minutes, Brodie Kostecki bowled a wide at the final corner and scraped the wall.

The Erebus Commodore suffered minor rear damage, with the rear wing plucked off the car.

It was one of a number of high-speed slides at the final corner.

Notably, Anton De Pasquale and Shane van Gisbergen also cut it perilously fine.

Davison’s 1:02.152s proved just 0.012s faster than hometown hero Andre Heimgartner.

Chaz Mostert and Nick Percat ensured Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Friday pace was genuine.

Kostecki whacks the wall hard

Mostert and Percat were third and fourth, with van Gisbergen, De Pasquale and Cam Waters behind.

Bryce Fullwood and David Reynolds rounded out the top 10.

De Pasquale led the early running on a 1:02.379s ahead of Waters and Heimgartner.

Van Gisbergen and Davison went quicker, with the latter firing to the top in the closing minutes.

Heimgartner slotted into second, with the WAU duo pushing van Gisbergen to fifth.

Davison in first to Pither in 25th were covered by 0.91s.

Cars will return to the circuit for three-part ARMOR ALL Qualifying at 2:00pm local time/4:00pm AEST.

The 41-lap Race 27 will commence at 4:40pm local time/2:20pm AEST.
