Triple Eight is “definitely” happy to have breathing room in the teams’ championship fight.

Shell V-Power Racing Team arrived in Tailem Bend just 10 points from the lead.

However, Red Bull Ampol Racing outscored their closest rivals to the tune of 111 points at the OTR SuperSprint.

The increased margin was built off the back off a perfect 315-point weekend by Shane van Gisbergen.

Van Gisbergen won all three races, and scored fastest lap bonus points each time.

Conversely, Will Davison’s Race 21 podium was the only trophy for Dick Johnson Racing.

Critically, the teams’ championship standings will set the order for the 2023 pit lane.

Given the competitive unknowns of Gen3, teams will take any advantage they can get.

Triple Eight co-owner Jess Dane emphasised how important the teams’ title means to the team.

It comes after Red Bull Ampol Racing wrested away the title from DJR last year.

"We definitely are [happy]," Dane told Supercars’ Cool Down Lap podcast when asked about the increased margin.

"As much as we covet the drivers’ championship, the teams’ championships means just as much to us.

"Unfortunately, it’s not reflected in the same way up and down pit lane.

"Definitely the teams’ championship is a fantastic one to be leading.

"Hopefully we clinch it at the end of the year, because it means we’ve done a strong job all round."

DJR took the lead from Triple Eight after a standout weekend in Darwin.

However, van Gisbergen swept Townsville to help his team take the lead back.

DJR will be hoping for a Darwin repeat at Sandown this weekend, given it has already overhauled one large deficit.

Van Gisbergen outscored De Pasquale by 117 points at the Pizza Hut Winton SuperSprint.

DJR dropped 137 points behind Red Bull Ampol Racing, before clawing back the margin in Darwin.
