Courtney won't be curbing his aggression

While Holden Racing Team driver James Courtney has been in the spotlight on and off the track this season, he won't be curbing his aggression any time soon as he fights for his second V8 Supercars Championship.

Courtney won the title in 2010 and has his eyes on Craig Lowndes as his biggest competition as the Championship heads to the SKYCITY Triple Crown in Darwin this weekend.

"I just really want to get this Championship (win)," Courtney said.

"Triple Eight have had way too long a run at wrapping up the Championship so it's time we take them down...

"Craig Lowndes has been really quick throughout the whole year and probably has done a little bit better job than his teammate [six-time champ Jamie Whincup] so I think Craig is still the one that we'll be chasing."

Thirty-four year old Courtney came out firing this season, winning the first Sunday sprint at the Clipsal 500 in emphatic form. He sits fifth on the Championship table and has been involved ina number of incidents this year - including a clash with Will Davison in Tasmania and contact with teammate Garth Tander last round in Winton. But those incidents won't be stopping him from continuing to race aggressively and pushing for victory.

"Look, I've probably been involved in a few more things than normal," Courtney said.

"I'm not here to make friends, in the end I'm here to win and deliver and I'm not worried about who I upset along the way.

"I want to win, I do whatever it takes to win and sometimes you have to be a little bit more aggressive. But it has to be calculated and sometimes you make mistakes like I did at Winton when I took Garth out and that obviously wasn't the right thing to do.

"But it hasn't affected the way I do things. I'll still attack my racing as aggressively as what I normally do."

With a pair of podiums to his name at the Northern Territory track Courtney will be looking for his maiden Hidden Valley victory.

"To come away with a result at Darwin, we're going to have to have good power, good fuel economy and good tyre life and also good car speed, so it's a lot of things," he said.

"The boys have been working really hard on the stops, our pit stops and pit lane time has been really quite good. We've just got to really nail it in qualifying and gain a good qualifying position and then we'll be at the front and able to fight...

"I'm pretty excited going to Darwin, I think we could easily come away with a win so long as we all do our job properly and no one mucks up."

HRT teammate Garth Tander will be drawing on over a decade of experience at the track as he continues to chip away at the championship leaders. Tander, a multiple-race winner at the Darwin circuit, is sixth in the V8 Supercars Championship. He will join the Inside Supercars panel tonight on FOX SPORTS 506 at 7.30pm.
