The Australian Grand Prix Corporation today announced V8 Supercars driver James Courtney as the V8 Ambassador for the 2015 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.

Courtney, who is a former Formula One test driver for Jaguar, has raced against some of the sport's biggest names including Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Michael Schumacher.

The Holden Racing Team driver has enjoyed a steady rise in the sport since his 2005 debut, with Courtney's greatest achievement in 2010 when he was crowned V8 Supercars Champion in a tense finale in Sydney.

As the V8 Ambassador for the 2015 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix, Courtney will attend official events and make multiple media appearances prior to, and during the event. The V8 Supercars will contest four races across the event, as well as qualifying and practice sessions.

An enthusiastic Courtney, 34, is proud to be part of the Grand Prix family as the event enters its 20th year.

"The Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix is one of the best events on the sporting calendar - the vibrancy and energy throughout Melbourne is electric during March. I can't wait to get out on the track, the races are always intense and with just 30 minutes per race, it's all out attack right from the get go," Courtney said.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation General Manager of Motorsport and Entertainment Craig Fletcher is thrilled to have Courtney on-board in 2015.

"We are excited that James has agreed to come on board as the V8 Ambassador. He is one of the most respected V8 Supercars drivers and has a host of international open-wheeler experience as well. I'm sure he will be a fantastic addition to the Grand Prix team," Fletcher said.

Fletcher also highlighted a new ticket offering for the 2015 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix that will enable motorsport fans to enjoy Friday afternoon's on-track action.

"This year General Admission tickets after 3pm on Friday will be only $30 for adults, giving fans the chance to start the weekend slightly early and see a Formula One Practice session and a V8 Supercars Race for a very affordable price," he continued.

'Friday Overdrive' aims to make the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix even more accessible and provide new fans with the opportunity to experience the excitement of the event.
