Garry Rogers Motorsport will enter mediation with Volvo Car Australia to determine whether they can race the S60s with the B8444S engine next year in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

Volvo’s shock decision to exit the sport next year was delivered in May, after a dominant showing from Scott McLaughlin at Phillip Island and before his confirmed departure to DJR Team Penske for next year.

GRM team boss Garry Rogers has confirmed mediation will begin by December 16th, with another court date set in February if required.

Rogers said the team would just “deal with what we have to deal with” until then, despite leaving little time to make arrangements for the 2017 season.

The team released a statement across its social media channels titled “GRM v. VCA” this afternoon which Rogers said summed it up:

“We had our first listing in the Federal Court on Friday where orders were made by the Judge regarding the completion of legal steps,” the statement read.

“The Judge has provided a window of opportunity to resolve the matter this year by way of Court ordered mediation. This was very positive from our point of view as we have been attempting to sit down with Volvo and discuss the position that they had left us in following Volvo’s unexpected announcement in May to exit Supercars at the completion of the current season, after earlier indications that an extension to the program was supported. In the short term our focus and energies are on converting the speed that we have shown through the first two legs of the Endurance Cup into a result at the Gold Coast this weekend.”
