Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Chaz Mostert has found he’s taking the upcoming BP Supercars All Stars Eseries more seriously with each and every lap he turns in his simulator.

Mostert joked recently he would more likely be contending for “the biggest crash award” than be running at the pointy end.

But the competitive edge that has helped him become one of the sport’s top talents is driving him to see just how much he can achieve in the iRacing arena.

“All the drivers have been joking about just having some fun but the more practice I do, the more serious I’m starting to take it,” he told Fox Sports News today.

“I’ve had my sim for about three days now and have done plenty of laps.

“It’s just good getting in some practice sessions with the other guys obviously before the race next week so I can’t wait to get in there and see how we fare through the championship.

“Guys like Scotty McLaughlin, Shane van Gisbergen, Anton [De Pasquale], those guys are the real pacesetters but in saying that I’m putting in the hours at the moment to try to give them a real run for their money.”

Mostert believes there will be plenty of driver errors to be seen as the 25-strong field tries to push the limits.

“It’s going to be tough to race, a lot of mistakes, a lot of brake locking, a lot of cars running off track,” he said.

“Hopefully we can give our teams some success in the virtual world.”

And he’s standing by his desire to reignite battles with the likes of former Tickford Racing teammate Cameron Waters.

“Round 1 at Adelaide I found myself in the heat of the battle with an ex couple of teammates so no doubt in the virtual world I’m looking to keep that online battle going on,” he said.

“But at the end of the day, we’re all still mates and guys like Cam Waters, Will Davison, we all have a good chuckle off the track.

“But when we’re on there, I tell you what, we don’t like to give each other a millimetre and that’s the way it should be so we’re looking forward to getting out there and racing as close as we can.”

The BP Supercars All Stars Eseries kicks off on April 8 from 7pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports, Kayo, TEN Play and Sky Sports New Zealand.
