The Ford Mustang road car that Scott McLaughlin drove in a special speed comparison at the 2019 Superloop Adelaide 500 is up for auction.

McLaughlin drove the Herrod Motorsport-tuned GT fastback alongside Dick Johnson in a Mustang Supercar and Marcos Ambrose in a Fusion NASCAR, celebrating Ford’s official return to the sport.

An initiative of Shell V-Power Racing team boss Ryan Story, the car is being auctioned with all proceeds going to children’s cancer charity Camp Quality.

"Camp Quality is a charity very close to my heart and I'm very proud to support them,” Story said.

“This year has been tough for everyone, but it hasn't stopped the important work Camp Quality do to support sick kids with cancer and their families.

“This specific car was part of the launch of the Mustang Supercar and Ford coming back into Supercars in a big way. It holds a place in history.

“I'm extremely grateful to Ford and to Shannons for supporting this cause, raising much-needed funds for Camp Quality.

“I have no doubt that this historic Mustang will find a good home."

McLaughlin is pleased to see the car being offered for a good cause.

"I just remember first driving that Mustang around the streets of Adelaide and asking Rob Herrod what he did to it as it rode the kerbs really well!” he said.

“Sharing the track with two Ford legends like Dick and Marcos was a hell of an experience and one I'll never forget.

“To now see the car being auctioned with all proceeds going to Camp Quality is just awesome."
