Will Brown is so far pleased to prove wrong the naysayers over Erebus Motorsport’s decision to blood two rookies in 2021.

Brown and teammate Brodie Kostecki have featured in the top 10 in the standings for the balance of the season.

Brown is currently eighth, and is on track to be the best place rookie in a season since Scott McLaughlin finished 10th overall for Garry Rogers Motorsport in 2013.

That year, Brown was only 15 and plying his trade in karting. Fast forward eight years, and Brown is a pole winner and podium finisher.

Chaz Mostert finished seventh overall in 2014, his first full season, but completed 11 rounds in 2013.

Last week, he became the first full-time rookie to record a pole position since Chris Pither at Queensland Raceway in 2016

The only thing remaining for Brown is a race win, which he has already seen go begging at the first two Sydney events.

Bungled pit stops while fighting for the win in Races 20 and 23, along with a battle with Anton De Pasquale in Race 22, have ensured Brown has had a taste of the winners’ circle.

Ahead of this weekend’s BP Ultimate Sydney SuperSprint, Brown paid tribute to his team’s confidence in himself and Kostecki as they both look to better McLaughlin’s marker.

“At the start of the year, we had a full engineer line-up change and a full driver line-up change,” he told Supercars.com.

"Some people were critical of that, and critical of two rookies being together.

“For me to be eighth in the championship, Brodie was inside the top 10 until last weekend, he had a tough one.

“It’s fantastic for Erebus; to have two good drivers last year, and pick up two rookies this year and go forward in the championship, it’s pretty cool.”

The plaudits in the wet Sunday race went to Chaz Mostert, who pieced together a spirited drive from 26th to third.

Brown, however, impressed to fifth, having started 17th.

McLaughlin won two races was was 10th overall in 2013

The Sunday performance was proof Erebus has speed in all conditions; with rain forecast this weekend, Brown is champing at the bit to get behind the wheel.

“I’m pretty happy we’re racing four weekends in a row at Sydney,” he said.

“For us, it’s been fantastic. We’ve come out of the gates really strong. It was good to get a strong wet race after a pretty disappointing qualifying.

“Really happy with how the car’s performing and how we’re going down here.

“I’m happy we were quick in the wet, there might be more rain this weekend, so we’ve got to prepare for that as well.
