The Holden Monaro in which Peter Brock made his first Bathurst start 50 years ago is set for auction.

Brock’s first Great Race appearance came in 1969 aboard one of three HT Monaro GTS 350s run by Harry Firth’s then new factory-backed Holden Dealer Team.

A 24-year-old Brock teamed up with Des West in #43D to finish third in the 500-mile contest, won by Colin Bond and Tony Roberts in the lead HDT entry.

The Brock/West car underwent a full restoration in the mid-2000s, forming part of Peter Champion’s Brock Experience museum and subsequent Dreamworld exhibit on the Gold Coast.

Champion sold his collection last year, with the bulk of the cars subsequently offered for auction at Bathurst 12 months ago.

#43D was not among those auctioned last year and is now the subject of an online auction running from 4:30pm September 20 to 8.35pm September 25.

The car is advertised by auction house GraysOnline with full documentation, including CAMS log book.

After his debut in 1969, Brock went on to win the Great Race nine times and, following his death in 2006, had the winner’s trophy named in his honour.

This year's battle for the Peter Brock Trophy will take place on October 10-13.
