The legacy of Peter Brock has been further instilled with his eponymous trophy added to the new Repco Bathurst 1000 trophy.

The new event logo and charity were revealed on Friday as the countdown to the 64th Great Race continues.

Repco, which is also the naming rights backer of the Supercars Championship, begins a new five-year deal as naming rights sponsor of the marquee Bathurst 1000.

The late Brock is synonymous with Mount Panorama, having recorded a record nine Great Race wins.

Following his untimely passing in 2006, winners of the Bathurst 1000 have been awarded the Peter Brock Trophy.

Protege Craig Lowndes has won the trophy six times, with Jamie Whincup four.

Garth Tander and Steve Richards have won it three times each.

Wayne Bryant - Executive General Manager, Repco Australia, said the new event identity was a way to pay tribute to Brock.

"To signify a new era, both parties have collaborated to create a new event identity,” Bryant said.

Brock is one of Australian motorsport's greatest names

"The new contemporary identity incorporates the Peter Brock Trophy to reference the rich history of the Great Race, with Brock winning a record nine Bathurst enduros.

"Peter holds a special place in Repco's history, having won the Repco Round Australia Trial in 1979 – the same year he dominated the Bathurst 1000, winning that race by six laps.”

Repco and Brock go beyond Bathurst, with the three-time ATCC champion also winning the Repco Round Australia Trail in 1979.

That year, he also won in Bathurst, Sandown and came second in the ATCC, which he won the following year.

His long-time partner Beverley reiterated the significance of the trophy in Peter’s name, which will be awarded to the latest winners of the race on November 7.

"It may be 15 years since he left us but as a family, we remain incredibly proud of all that Peter achieved, and have absolutely no doubt that he would be delighted to see Repco associated with the race that he won on nine occasions,” she said.

"Every one of those victories meant as much to him as it did when he proudly wore the Repco banner at the end of that Repco Round Australia Trail all those years ago.

"Whoever gets to hold the Peter Brock Trophy after the chequered flag drops will carry his legacy forward knowing that they have achieved something absolutely remarkable and deserve their own place in our motor racing history."
