Hazelwood's deflated reaction to 'annoying' qualifying

Brad Jones Racing’s one-lap woes have continued at the OTR SuperSprint, with the team's four all eliminated in the first part of ARMOR ALL Qualifying.

In a disappointing result for the Albury-based outfit, Todd Hazelwood was quickest of the quartet in 23rd position, followed by teammate Jack Smith.

The remaining two BJR cars rounded out the slowest recorded times, with Macauley Jones netting 25th ahead of Nick Percat, 3.296s off the benchmark time.

Visibly dejected by the showing, Hazelwood was the only BJR driver willing to speak after the session, admitting one-lap pace is a continuing problem for the team.

“I think we just missed pressures,” he said.

“It’s annoying because two rounds in a row we have been at the back of the pack in qualifying.

“It’s incredibly frustrating as we have proven two rounds in a row that we have a fast race car.

"But that’s on us, we need to do a better job.”

It comes after Hazelwood was seventh quickest in the final practice session ahead of qualifying.

Percat's #8 R&J Batteries entry was 14th in Practice 2.

While one-lap pace has eluded the team, Hazelwood has proven BJR has strong speed in races, having passed more cars than any other driver on the grid over three rounds.

Hazelwood, who also had an incident with David Reynolds in Practice 2, leaving him with a scratch to #14 Holden ZB Commodore, remains positive.

“It’s done, you’ve got to remove it, get the emotion out of it,” Hazelwood said of his qualifying result.

“Full focus on the race now, we know we can pass cars and we have proven that the last couple of rounds.

“We would have liked to have passed more and be further up the grid.

“The challenge is on now; we have to roll the sleeves up. We have a fast race car, it’s a credit to the guys for hanging in there and giving it their all as they have been going to hell and back.

“I hope we can bring a result for them.”

The Repco Supercars Championship field will return for the 24-lap Race 9 at 4:35pm AEST. Check out the full weekend schedule here.

The OTR SuperSprint will be broadcast live on Foxtel and will be streamed on Kayo with highlights on 7 and 7 Plus.
