Beaurepaires backs Supercars' Albert Park return

Australian tyre company Beaurepaires will back Supercars' return to Albert Park.

The Beaurepaires Melbourne 400 will feature at the Formula 1 Heineken Australian Grand Prix on April 7-10.

Beaurepaires first sponsored the Supercars Albert Park round in 2019.

The company also backed the 2022 season-opening Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight.

Supercars will race for points and the Larry Perkins Perpetual Trophy next weekend.

Races 6, 7, 8 and 9 will be conducted at the revamped circuit, which last hosted racing in 2019.

The 2020 Grand Prix was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation sales and commercial general manager Michelle Greco was delighted to have Supercars' Melbourne return backed by Beaurepaires.

"We’re excited to have Beaurepaires as the official naming rights sponsor of the Supercars Beaurepaires Melbourne 400 in what is shaping up to be an incredible on-track entertainment lineup at the Formula 1 Heineken Australian Grand Prix 2022," Greco said.

"Since 2019, Supercars’ Beaurepaires Melbourne 400 has brought us exhilarating on-track entertainment.

"As one of the premier homegrown motorsport categories in Australia, we’re ready to welcome Supercars back to Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit, and we know fans are too."

Supercars will race for points in four 100km-long races, with the first to be held on Friday April 8.

Supercars last raced at Albert Park in 2019

It will be a mixed compound tyre event, with the Hard and Soft compounds available to drivers.

There will be a four-tyre minimum change at stops.

Supercars will first hit the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit for Practice 1 on the Thursday morning.

After practice, there will be four quick-fire qualifying sessions, lasting just 10 minutes each, spread across Thursday and Friday.

The sessions will set the grids for the respective races.

The first Supercars race will commence at 2:20pm AEST on Friday. There will be two races on Saturday, and one on Sunday.

The Formula 1 Heineken Australian Grand Prix will commence at 3:00pm on Sunday, with the fourth Supercars race at 12:00pm.
