Six-time champion Jamie Whincup has been slapped with a $3000 fine for breaching end of race procedures and celebrating today’s race win with a burnout in his Red Bull Holden Commodore.

Drivers were told not to perform burnouts at this weekend’s Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix, but after his first win of the week, Whincup unleashed on the outside of turn 15.

The fine follows one controversially handed to current champion Mark Winterbottom at Sandown last year, when he performed a burnout on the front straight after winning the enduro.

The fine was confirmed in the post-race Stewards Summary, which also details penalties handed out to drivers for today’s racing.
