Two Brisbane Lions players were given an unorthodox way to prepare for their AFL final against Melbourne.
Jarrod Berry and Rhys Mathieson did hot laps in Matt Stone Racing Supercars at Queensland Raceway on Tuesday.
Berry and Mathieson were treated to speeds of over 250km/h, with Zane Goddard saying the footballers were treated to some wild driving.
“I did a couple of drifts on the second lap just to show them what we can do,” Goddard said.
“I think they enjoyed it… the most impressive things about these cars is the brakes.
“You get a passenger in and you’re approaching the corner, and you can see them tense up and look at their feet.”
Self-proclaimed “car man” Mathieson was delighted with the opportunity.
“One of the most exciting things I’ve done in my life to date,” said Mathieson, who helped the Lions clinch a top four spot last weekend with a thrilling win over West Coast.
“It was an unbelievable experience… Saturday night then coming to this, it’s put the cherry on top.
“Being a car man and doing something like that is very exciting."
MSR young gun Jake Kostecki was pleased to see the results of when “two totally different worlds collide”.
“To get them in the car and see what we do, they had big grins on their faces,” Kostecki said.
“For them to see what it’s like is pretty cool.
“To get them in the car was wicked.”
The Lions will tackle the Demons at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
The 2021 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at Winton Motor Raceway on October 2-3.
