Another sneak peek ahead of next week’s Sydney.com V8 Supercars Test Day – this time from Dick Johnson Racing.

DJR boasts a whole new driver line-up for 2014, with David Wall and Scott Pye behind the wheel of the Falcons.

And while both are known to V8 Supercars fans, they are relatively new to our sport – so who better to give them a hand than a couple of motor racing legends?

As well as team boss Dick Johnson to turn to for advice, John Bowe has signed on to mentor and coach the drivers.

In 1994, Bowe and Johnson won a Bathurst 1000 crown together, after Bowe held off a late challenge for debutant Craig Lowndes.

Bowe went on to win the championship with DJR in the same car the following year – and 20 years later they are pairing up to pass expertise on to this generation of racers.

“I am excited to be taking an active role with Dick and Wilson Security Racing this year,” Bowe said.

“Dick’s team deserves the support they are now getting. I’ve always admired Dick’s ‘never say die’ attitude particularly last year and he’s now got the right people and a great sponsor to guide the team to the success it deserves.

“My role will be on and off track and I will work with Dick on really bringing Scott and David and the co-drivers on. I am very pleased to be back with my ‘family’ V8 Supercar team.

“Having Wilson Security commit to the team for two years just highlights the potential we have here.”

Johnson described Bowe as family.

“JB is a great mate of mine and really is like family. We have been through so much together over the years and had some great wins at Sandown and Bathurst together not to mention the Championships,” he said.

“Having him back in the fold thanks to Wilson Security is a real coup for us. He has mentored a lot of young drivers over the years and what he does in Mustang Sally on race weekends (in the Touring Car Masters series) shows these young blokes he’s still got what it takes!”

See all 25 V8 Supercars in the flesh at next Saturday's sydney.com V8 Supercars Test Day. The event is free, and fans will be treated to the ever popular grid walk, with all cars and drivers parked on-track for a meet and greet from 12.30pm.
