20 years in Darwin: Ingall strikes

The inaugural Hidden Valley Supercars event proved the ultimate roller-coaster for Castrol Perkins driver Russell Ingall.

Forced into the largely untested VT Holden for the season’s penultimate round, 12th in Race 1 appeared to end Ingall’s title hopes as rival Craig Lowndes sailed to victory.

Remarkably, Lowndes and Holden Racing Team team-mate Mark Skaife both failed to start the second heat due to engine problems while Ingall charged through to victory.

Ingall won again in Race 3, giving the VT its first of many round wins and ensuring a final round showdown with Lowndes at Oran Park.

Flashback to Ingall’s magic moment - and his follow-up win in 1999 - as part of our video series celebrating 20 years of Supercars racing in the Northern Territory.
