Broc Feeney stuns on debut with New Zealand Grand Prix pole
Supercars stars to share front row for prestigious feature race
Will Brown second on grid for Sunday's 69th running
Broc Feeney has stunned his rivals, including Supercars teammate Will Brown, to claim pole position for the New Zealand Grand Prix.
On his Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship debut at Highlands Motorsport Park, Feeney scored pole for the final race of the weekend.
The 12-time Supercars race winner, making his first competitive open-wheel outing, went earlier than any other driver in Q3 and set his best lap early on.
Feeney's 1:29.03s was 0.15s quicker than Brown, with Australian driver Patrick Heuzenroeder third.
Heuzenroeder raced from pole to victory in Saturday afternoon’s race, with Red Bull junior Arvid Lindblad clinching the championship. Feeney was 10th in Race 1, with Brown undone by a broken front wing.
"My heart rate is about 300 beats right now,” Feeney said after Q3.
“That was awesome. I knew I just had to get to Q3. I’m normally a guy that builds up quite a bit. I thought I did a pretty decent lap. I was just thinking for the rest of it, ‘Don’t spray it and cause a red flag’.
“This is unreal. Qualifying is a lot here and to be on pole for the grand prix in my first time is pretty bloody awesome.”
Feeney and Brown have their Supercars engineers, Andrew Edwards and Martin Short, on the ground with them at Highlands.
Earlier, the duo helped unveil Triple Eight Race Engineering’s 2025 Red Bull Ampol Racing Supercar livery, which will hit the track in Sydney later this month.
