Fraser’s car shed its right rear wheel nut, sending the 21-year-old rearwards into the concrete approaching John Hinxman Vista.

The MW Motorsport driver managed to exit his car under his own steam. The session was red-flagged and later declared.

Fraser was 11th at the time of his accident.

Times at the top changed hands in the opening minutes as drivers cycled through their first runs.

Broc Feeney clocked an initial 2:09.360s, before Practice 1 fast man Jayden Ojeda dropped in a 2:08.717s.

Feeney went quicker with a 2:08.494s, before Ojeda went quicker again with a 2:07.815s.

The points leader was sixth in the list behind Ojeda, Matt Payne, Tyler Everingham, Zak Best and Aaron Seton when the balance of the field returned to the lane.

Notably, Feeney had a flyer compromised as he approached James Masterton exiting Turn 1.

Feeney still managed to jump to second during his second run, but had 0.166s to find on Ojeda.

That margin blew out to over a second once Boys clocked consecutive 2:06s laps.

Boys was 1.051s to the good with five minutes remaining when he fired in a 2:06.764s.

Rookie Matt McLean split Ojeda and Feeney with a 2:07.926s, but was still 1.161s down on Boys.

The track continued to evolve; Seton rose to second on a 2:07.193s before Fraser suffered his accident.

The session was declared as the clean-up commenced, leaving Boys atop the time sheets ahead of Seton, Ojeda, McLean, Feeney and Payne.

Best was seventh ahead of Everingham, Tim Blanchard and Josh Fife.

Other notables include Angelo Mouzouris, who ended up 16th having been forced into the garage due a steering rack issue.

Reef McCarthy was the quickest Super3 runner in 17th outright on a 2:10.791s, with points leader Nash Morris 19th outright.

Super2 and Super3 drivers will return to Mount Panorama on Thursday for Race 1 qualifying at 9:30am AEDT. Click here to view the track schedule.
