Whincup’s place in the final three rounds of the virtual competition was thrown into doubt last week as the seven-time champion revealed his workload with the Supercars Commission had skyrocketed with the announcement of the revised 2020 calendar.

The Commission are working through a number of matters to determine how racing will look when the Sydney Motorsport Park round arrives on June 27-28.

The 37-year-old said last week: “I might call around and lean on one of the other lads to fill my spot for Car #88, but we’ll no doubt make a decision in the coming days.”

It is understood various possible replacements were considered before Whincup and the team decided to finish off the online season.

Whincup’s continued presence comes on the back of an Eseries-best sixth in qualifying at Charlotte last week.

He also won a reverse grid race at Watkins Glen in Round 4 but sits 19th in the overall standings.

Interlagos and either Phillip Island or Spa will host Round 8 action tomorrow night.
