The two-time Supercars champion led home his teammate Fabian Coulthard in a sublime start for Shell V-Power Racing in the virtual championship.

McLaughlin qualified third behind Shane van Gisbergen and polesitter Anton De Pasquale but jumped to the front quickly.

Cameron Waters made it an all-Ford podium, holding off Andre Heimgartner for third.

Jake Kostecki was the lead Holden in fifth, ahead of van Gisbergen, Nick Percat and De Pasquale, who recovered from a lap 1 visit to the grass that sent him spiralling down to 14th.

Chaz Mostert and Garry Jacobson rounded out the top 10.

Red Bull Holden Racing Team star Jamie Whincup came home a solid 14th, making 10 spots from his lowly grid slot.

Six cars finished off the lead lap, including Mark Winterbottom who had an accident in the opening seconds of the race.

Rick Kelly meanwhile took the undisputed biggest crash, with a shunt down the pit straight that sent his car spinning multiple times through the air.

Next up is a 16-lap reverse grid race at Phillip Island, before a 19-lap Monza heat in which De Pasquale will again start from ARMOR ALL Pole.
