The 24-year-old Victorian was a full-time member of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship grid in 2018 and ’19 but lost out when Garry Rogers Motorsport then departed the category.

He secured a PIRTEK Enduro Cup co-drive alongside Mark Winterbottom at IRWIN Racing and got his first steer of the #18 Holden at the BP Ultimate SuperTest in February.

Now he’ll represent the team as a wildcard at Interlagos and either Phillip Island or Spa tomorrow night for Round 8 of the Eseries, making for two IRWIN Commodores.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” Golding told Supercars.com.

“I wish I was in the real thing but that’s as close as we’re going to get at the moment so it’s good to be able to jump in and get the IRWIN car hopefully up the front.

“We’ll see how we go, I’ll have to do some laps with Frosty and suss out our plan of attack.”

Golding will run the #31 that he has often sported since it appeared on his very first go-kart.

“I only changed once I went to GRM so I used that all through karting, Formula Ford, I used it for any wildcard in Supercars back in 2017, so pretty much any chance I get to choose my own number, that’s what I run,” he said.

A return to the Supercars full-time scene as soon as 2021 remains firmly in his sights.

“I still plan on working towards getting back into a full-time drive,” Golding said.

“I mean it was a bit unfortunate with what happened with GRM last year, it sort of left me with not many options.

“There was a couple of options getting around but I chose to go with something that gives me the best chance to prove what I can do as a driver and that’s why I went with IRWIN Racing this year.

“Hopefully all the enduros do go ahead this year so I get the chance to prove myself and obviously getting in a differently built car than a GRM is something exciting as well.

“The test went pretty well at the start of the year so I’m pretty keen to jump back in the car and show what we can do and if all goes to plan and we have a good year, it would be awesome to jump back in full-time next year.”

Round 8 of the BP Supercars All Stars Eseries will begin with qualifying from 6pm AEST tomorrow and racing from 7pm.
