Eseries preview: Round 8 at Phillip Island

The 23-year old won his way onto the BP Supercars All Stars Eseries grid this evening by putting in a blistering lap at Phillip Island in the online competition.

The Victorian native jumped from last to first with eight minutes remaining in Q2 before going even quicker late in the session to extend his lead to a 10th of a second over the rest of the field.

The result also means it’s the first qualifying session where neither series leader Shane van Gisbergen or Anton De Pasquale has claimed ARMOR ALL Pole Position.

“Qualifying for Phillip Island went really well so that’s always good,” said El-Nabi.

“I think strategy is pretty simple to be honest, we’ll just do our thing, put our heads down and see where we end up.

“Shane [van Gisbergen] is a pretty good racer, he’s always a really hard racer and a clean racer. He’s a Kiwi, so that’s always good having an all-Kiwi battle."

Officially the top 10 for Phillip Island qualifying was El-Nabi, van Gisbergen, De Pasquale, Chaz Mostert, Scott McLaughlin, Lee Holdsworth, Will Davison, Cam Waters, David Reynolds and Bryce Fullwood who rounded out the top ten.

El-Nabi, an experienced iRacer, will start from the front row of the grid in two of tonight’s three races after claiming the second quickest time at Interlagos earlier.

Drivers will now prepare for the first race of the night at Phillip Island, before heading to Interlagos where Anton De Pasquale will start from pole ahead of El-Nabi.

The final race of the night will be a reverse grid start.
