The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will officially begin on the streets of Newcastle on the weekend of 10-12 March.
Supercars, Destination New South Wales and Newcastle City Council can now confirm the picturesque street circuit will mark Supercars’ return to Newcastle for the first time since the 2019 season finale.
A priority during race preparations, and the event itself, will be to maintain access for east end residents and the general public, wherever and whenever possible. Some public spaces along the circuit will only be accessible to ticket holders and those with access accreditation during the three-day event.
Installation and removal of the racing circuit is condensed into a planned nine-week period. Commencing late January, the installation of temporary infrastructure includes the pit building, grandstands, bridges, barriers and fencing around the circuit.
Road closures will be in place before, during and after the event on various roads in and around Newcastle. We understand detailed lists of closures, clearways and changed traffic and access conditions as well as downloadable maps will be available at livetraffic.com later this year.
Parking for Residents in the Newcastle 500 Event Area
Road layout and access to parking have changed significantly in Newcastle since the first Newcastle 500 that took place in 2017. Supercars Australia previously had use of a parking station that has since been demolished, and so have sought alternative accommodation for residents who need access to their vehicles during the event.
There will be a limited number of these parking spaces available for residents to use over the race weekend, Friday 10th March to Sunday 12th March. These spaces will be offered free of charge to eligible residents who require access to their vehicles during the race.
Due to the limited number of car parking options in the Newcastle CBD we would ask that only those residents requiring their vehicle during the event apply for alternate parking.
Every resident living inside the race precinct can still use their car providing you leave the race area before 7AM each morning. You will be able to return after 7PM each day.
This year a limited number of parking spots have been secured at First Parking, 11 Argyle Street. This is the closest car park that we have been able to secure. Please take the location into consideration before applying for external parking. To apply for parking please contact mynewcastle@supercars.com and include ‘EXTERNAL PARKING’ in the subject/body of the email.
Residents are reminded that vehicles can remain within the precinct if they are parked off the street, in a garage, or underground car park. Pedestrian access is 24-hours over the event weekend, and residents wearing their accreditation are eligible for free public transport within Newcastle, including the tram.
