The Motorsport Department at Supercars is the cornerstone of the safe, fair and competitive Championship that enables the entire Supercars organisation to continue as the leading touring car category. We take on the responsibility to our organisation, and the broader sport, that the Supercars championship continues to have technical parity between makes, as well as ensuring the overall sustainability of the sport in all aspects.
The Data and Systems Engineer will assist the Motorsport Technical team, and the greater Motorsport department, to maintain the technical integrity of the Repco Supercars Championship through ongoing monitoring of teams, specific analysis of their data, and management & continual improvement of surrounding data systems for reliability, scrutineering and parity purposes. This role involves work across south-east Queensland, Australia and overseas, in both office & track-based environments.
The responsibility of the Technical department is increasing year by year as we improve our scrutineering ability and capacity to provide a level playing field for all competitors. Additionally, Supercars’ ownership of the GEN3 platform has added a level of responsibility to ensure reliability, safety and parity for all.
Non-Event Tasks:
Team Related:
Respond to team enquiries as required.
Travel to teams as required for scrutineering & testing purposes.
Scrutineering Related:
Updating and documenting control device configurations.
Responsible for parity measurement kit.
Source, and assist with design and/or development of, new scrutineering equipment, components & systems as required.
Producing reports from telemetry or logged data to help enforce rules.
Assist the Motorsport Operations Manager and governing bodies regarding system integration and updates.
Data analysis generating reliability, system, supplier and performance report for scrutineering, parity & development purposes.
Pre-event preparation of required templates & software and overview of upcoming event, e.g. MoTeC software, KDTiming2, HH Timing, HH Data Management.
Post-event scrutineering checks as required.
Special Projects:
Assist with new vehicle homologations both locally & overseas, including aerodynamic and engine testing.
Assist other departments with technical deliverables as required.
Individual R&D project management.
Vehicle Platform:
Manage various device configuration updates and documentation.
Assist with development and updates to existing and new Supercars vehicle platforms as required.
Assist with design, integration and validation of new hardware, software and electrical components & systems as required.
Event/track-based tasks:
Team Related:
Respond to team enquiries.
Maintain a presence in pit lane.
Evaluate vehicle issues during sessions or post-sessions.
Liaise with Teams to ensure parity logger systems are fully operational.
Assist with diagnosing issues with control components & wiring.
Scrutineering, Data & Analysis:
Downloading ECU data post session, or as required.
Collecting data from team’s data logger and/or parity data logger.
Post session analysis of cars performances and parity monitoring using timing system and MoTeC data across various metrics & subsystems.
Producing reports from telemetry or logged data to help enforce rules.
Ensure timing & data management systems are operational.
Manage testing of additional systems & development items on-track.
Other:
Assist with set-up and tear-down of motorsport operational equipment, including scrutineering patch, data centre, etc.
Assist with overall Supercars business needs as required.

You should possess the following professional skills and experience:
Degree level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
2 to 5 years professional motorsport experience.
Highly skilled in Office Suite, specifically Excel (including effective data visualisations, and the ability to write advanced formulas, macros, etc.)
Thorough knowledge of MoTeC software, specifically i2 Pro, PDM Manager, M1 Tune.
Competency in CAD (e.g. Solidworks).
Basic understanding of programming (e.g. VBA, Python, Matlab) at a minimum.
Understanding of vehicle dynamics and simulation techniques are desirable.
Knowledge of motorsport timing software is desirable.
Basic electrical knowledge is desirable.
