In the Dunlop Series, Eggleston Motorsport’s Jack Perkins finished today's practice on top at the Sucrogen Townsville 400.

The son of six-time Bathurst Champion Larry Perkins led the 31 cars on the field during Practice Two, clocking a 1min14.8248 in the Triple Eight-built Holden Commodore VE II.

Championship leader Ash Walsh and Matt White Motorsport’s Dale Wood rounded out the top three.

All three doubled as co-drivers in the early main series practice sessions – Perkins alongside main series rookie Scott McLaughlin, while Walsh and Wood are both at Dick Johnson Racing.

World Moto GP Champion Casey Stoner finished well inside the top 10 in sixth.

What is only Stoner’s third Dunlop Series event the improvement on track was well-received and the V8 Supercars debutant said he was making the most of the Townsville street circuit.

“It’s hard getting all the little things together but we’re getting there and it’s a lot more enjoyable now," Stoner said.

"Plus the fact that I love street circuits – they’re fantastic. We had the first taste of it in Adelaide and then we did a few laps at Albert Park. I really enjoy the street ones. Hopefully we can stay in the top-10 for qualifying and spend more time up that end because we haven’t been there too much.”

Ex-main game driver Steve Owen had a good day on the track dominating practice one but finished fourth in the latter part of the day. Owen also participated as a co-driver for Will Davison in the main series and was the highest placed co-driver in Practice Two, when co-drivers, bottom 50 per cent of main series drivers and rookies took part.

Daniel Gaunt, Casey Stoner, Paul Morris, George Miedecke, Aaren Russell and Geoff Emery made up the top 10.

North Queensland’s Morgan Haber finished 22nd – but only two and half seconds separating the first 25.
