Paul Dumbrell has taken out the first of four races for the Dunlop Super2 Series at the Red Rooster Sydney SuperSprint.

Dumbrell was fastest off the front-row, stealing the lead from pole-sitter Garry Jacobson and was never headed for the duration.

Series leader Todd Hazelwood finished seventh, allowing Dumbrell to cut his advantage from 66 to 39 points.

Jacobson was swamped off the start and shuffled back to ninth position due to excessive wheelspin.

The Prodrive racer managed to finish fifth after a strong battle with Macauley Jones and Hazelwood throughout the race.

Anton De Pasquale used Jacobson’s poor start to his advantage and made a move to second position behind Dumbrell.

De Pasquale held the pace for the duration of the race.

Richie Stanaway claimed third on debut ahead of Jack Le Brocq in the leading MW Motorsport Nissan.
