Paul Morris Motorsports' Anton De Pasquale has secured his first Dunlop Super2 Series race and round win at the WD-40 Phillip Island 500.

The ex-European open-wheel racer moves up to sixth place in the point standings after his first podium since Bathurst last year.

De Pasquale won the race after Jack Le Brocq, who won both Super2 races yesterday and was holding a commanding lead today, spectacularly blew a right rear tyre with just seven laps remaining.

Le Brocq was leading by a comfortable 3.5 second margin over De Pasquale before his tyre went on the main straight and ruined the Nissan driver’s opportunity to walk away with a round win.

The Matt White Motorsport team did what they could to quickly repair the Go Getta Nissan Altima, sending it back out for the closing laps of the race to finish in 19th position.

Le Brocq now drops from second to third in the standings as a result. His team-mate, Shae Davies, had better luck today, pulling off a second-place finish in the round.

Paul Dumbrell claimed third-place for the round and has leapfrogged to the top of the Coates Hire leaderboard by 36 points over former front-runner, Todd Hazelwood.

Behind the leaders today there was an intense battle between Eggleston rookie Will Brown, defending champ Garry Jacobson and Kurt Kostecki in the #55 Commodore.

The trio went door-to-door on the second lap with Kostecki making a daring pass inside Jacobson, before the Holden was sent wide on lap six with Jacobson and Brown scooting past.

Jacobson claimed fifth position, Brown sixth and Kostecki seventh to stay within arm’s length of the series leaders.

The Dunlop Super2 field will return to the track at the Townsville 400, July 7-9 for round four of the Series.
