Australia's first Indigenous youth motorsport team, Racing Together, will return to the Northern Territory this weekend for the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown.

Racing Together driver Braedyn Cidoni will contest a Hyundai Excel in the Combined Sedans field at Hidden Valley Raceway.

It comes as the Repco Supercars Championship celebrates its first Indigenous round at the iconic circuit.

It marks the Queensland-based squad’s second trip to Darwin, with the 18-year-old hoping to capitalise on his previous experience at the circuit.

“Last year was challenging, but I know my way around the Hidden Valley track now and we have much more experience with our car,” Cidoni said.

“I’m looking forward to a great weekend on and off the track. It will be great to be part of the Indigenous Round celebrations and show the Territory locals what Racing Together is all about.”

Racing Together launched ahead of the 2021 season, aimed at providing a pathway for teenage girls and boys of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background into motorsport.

Founded by Garry and Monique Connelly, the program has attracted widespread support.

It comes after Racing Together visited Albert Park earlier this year and met with prominent Formula 1 identities including Lewis Hamilton.

“The annual Indigenous Round in the Northern Territory provides a huge opportunity for us to showcase Racing Together to the national Supercars audience, as well as locals attending the event,” said Connelly.

”We can’t wait to return for another warm Territory welcome, to be part of Supercars’ fantastic Merlin Darwin Triple Crown event and to show Indigenous young people what life-changing opportunities await them in the motorsport world.”
