Cameron Waters has received a four grid spot penalty after an incident with Ash Walsh in today's first qualifying session at the ITM 500 Auckland.

The Pepsi Max Crew driver - who was taking part in just his third qualifying session in the V8 Supercars Championship - made contact with the Erebus car when Walsh slowed on the circuit in the closing stages the 10-minute hard tyre session.

He will now start from 18th for the first race as he stands in for injured Chaz Mostest for the first single driver event.

Waters' car was damaged after the contact and meant he was unable to set a time for the second qualifying session until the last minutes.

Walsh didn't get out of the garage for the day's second session, meaning he will start the race from 25th on the grid, after qualifying 24th for the first 60km dash.
