The battle heats up

Racing kicks off today at the ITM 500 Auckland, and the Kiwis are eager to dominate on home soil.

They have one last chance to tune their cars this morning during a 15-minute practice session at 11.05am, before today's two intense qualifying sessions. Vying for the chance to fly their country's flag from ARMOR ALL Pole Position, the drivers will be putting it all on the line during the 10-minute hit-outs, with the first qualifying session kicking off at 12.05am, ahead of the second session at 12.30pm.

Then, strap yourself in for two 60 kilometre races around Pukekohe Park Raceway. The lights go out for the first race at 3.00pm, followed by the second race at 5.00pm.

But before they head out to battle, come along to the V8 Supercars Paddock to meet the drivers and grab an autograph during the official V8 Supercars Driver Autograph Session. From 9.30am, each driver will appear out the front of their team garage for half an hour.

Car lovers will be in for a treat with many of New Zealand's finest hot rods and classic cars on showcase today at the Beach Hop display. An impressive 60-strong line-up of award-winning cars will have hot rod enthusiasts in awe. They'll also lay down some rubber during a track cruise today at 3.40pm.

The Beach Hop display will also play host to the Recliner Rockers energetic show. Performing some of the best rockabilly covers and their own rock 'n' roll singles, the Recliner Rockers show is not to be missed.

See New Zealand's top drifters smoke it up during the drifting demonstration today. Cole Armstrong, Dan Woolhouse and Shayne Allen will take the wheel to showcase their talents at 12.50pm. When they're not on track, head down to their display at Merchandise Alley to meet the guys and get up close and personal with their drift vehicles.

While you're there, stock up on your favourite team's merchandise and V8 Supercars gear ready for tomorrow's True Colour Track Walk, or head over to the Family Zone with the kids. There's plenty there to keep the little race fans entertained, with bouncy castles, face painting, balloon twisters and plenty more.
