First a race win, now a sponsorship win for Dick Johnson Racing, with Wilson Security announcing it will support the team for the remainder of the season.

While sponsorship from the security giant was not originally intended as a long-term plan, Wilson Security CEO John McMellan believes the team has proven its ability to deliver a solid commercial platform.

“It is important though to understand that we have never intended to preclude DJR from finding another major partner and this is still our position,” McMellan said.

“We are really pleased to see how the team has regrouped and perform at a very competitive level as the season progresses. Our decision to provide support for the remainder of 2013 is to assist the team by providing them with stability and certainty for the season whilst they continue to regroup and execute their new business plan.”

McMellan spoke to v8supercars.com.au recently about Wilson Security’s involvement with both DJR and Brad Jones Racing and why V8 Supercars was the ideal platform for the company.

By its own admission, DJR entered the 2013 season behind the eight ball, but the team has turned it around with a win by Chaz Mostert at the Coates Hire Ipswich 360, and strong support from fans and its core sponsor group.

“I am really pleased that Wilson Security has now committed to stick with us for the full 2013 V8 Supercars Championship,” Dick Johnson said.

“The whole team has been working very hard to move DJR up the grid and there have been a number of really good things in recent months. The arrival of Chaz at the Perth round, Shell’s branding on the #17 Blanchard Falcon and of course taking out a race win at QR are all part of the building blocks…

“It’s no secret that we are on the lookout for more commercial backing, but we wouldn’t be where we are now without Wilson Security and the support."
