Super save by Owen at The Dipper

Steve Owen has made the save of the day at a corner that has caught out many at Mount Panorama.

The co-driver, who steers with Chaz Mostert, managed to hold on to the Supercheap Auto Racing Falcon after going sideways through The Dipper and marginally missing the wall in the speedy car.

Mostert recorded the fastest time of the session with his late 2min05.3352, 0.3 seconds ahead of teammate Mark Winterbottom as the Prodrive Falcons simulated the shootout ahead of this afternoon’s one lap dash.

“My last run on an old set of tyres I got a bit loose coming down the hill!” Owen said.

“There’s cameras everywhere now so you can’t get away with that stuff anymore.”

He steered the car in race trim and was happy with the way the FG X was handling, while Mostert was in rehearsal mode for this afternoon.

“He’s gone out on some good tyres, I went out on some race tyres for a race run … we’re both happy an d comfortable in the car, that’s the main thing.”

A regular co-driver who steered with Winterbottom last year, Owen knows the challenge that is ahead tomorrow.

“If we can make it comfortable all day it makes life so much easier.

“Fingers crossed he can bang it up there in the shootout and see where we hand it over after the first stint.”

Owen was seventh quickest in yesterday’s co-driver only session.

The Supercars hit the track for the ARMOR ALL Top 10 Shootout at 5.10pm local time.
